| Iran's Nuclear Programme - A Threat or Farce? |

On May 17, 2010, Iran announced an agreement it had negotiated with Turkey and Brazil. Iran said that it would ship and store 2,640 pounds of low enriched uranium to Turkey. In return, Iran would receive 265 pounds of material enriched to 20 percent from Russia and France. Last year, too, Iran had announced a similar deal, but had not kept to its commitment. Hence, experts suspect that this time too Iran is not sincere, and is just making announcements in order to deflect sanctions that are threatening to be imposed on it by the Big Five.

“The secret of politics? Make a good treaty with Russia,” Otto von Bismarck, a former prime minister of Prussia in the 19th century had once said. Given Russia's size, strategic geographic location, reach and power, this remark makes sound sense. At least, Barack Obama, the US President, certainly seems to think so!
