Communication Skills: Making an Impact Over the Telephone

In our series on Communication, we are exploring ‘verbal communication’ and in this issue we will look at what it takes to speak effectively over the phone. There is a popular statistical reading available which states that 55% of what we communicate comes from body language, 38% comes from the tone of the voice and only 7% is derived from the words that we actually speak. If we are looking at telephonic communication then, we are already 55% disadvantaged. In the remaining 45%, it is the tone of voice that will carry the message across. It is this area therefore that we need to pay attention to.

India at the Beijing Olympics

We all know the famous quote from Barron Pierre De Coubertin – the father of the modern Olympic Games: “The important thing in Olympic games is not to win, but to take part. Just like the important thing in life is not the victory, but the effort.” Over the years Indian Olympic contingents seem to have taken the French historian’s words too seriously and produced nondescript performances. Failure has No Existence

Our society puts such a premium on success that any setback makes us feel ineffective, weak, or lacking in some way.
