Writing your best essay |
| – Serena Kallian |
The written ability test or the written evaluation seems to have come to find a permanent place in the selection process of most of the IIMs and other institutes like the FMS, IIFT etc. XLRI and IIFT had essay as part of their selection process for a long time now. In some cases institutes have not entirely scrapped the GD process but have introduced the essay writing or the written ability test as an additional round in the selection for the management programmes. Institutes like the IIM A and B have scrapped the G D process from their selection cycle. Among the IIMs, IIM A was the first institute to set the trend to have a written evaluation instead of the Group discussion. 'Time and tide waits for no man' and 'Time is money' are well known phrases referred to by people when they have to explain the importance of time especially in today's world. Each of us has 24 hours in a day with 365 days in a year and so we are always pressed for time when it comes to work or studies. How do we make the most of it? The answer lies in 'effective time management'. Who needs it? All of us do and not just managers/to be managers/students. It is critical however in management. If you happen to be an aspirant preparing for the coming onslaught of entrance exams then time is definitely not on your hands. Time management therefore becomes an important skill that needs to be cultivated early on. Why do we say cultivated? Because time management is a well learned and practised habit that is acquired after constant application and it requires a lot of restraint and discipline. Nobody is born with it

An expression, word, or phrase usually presumed to be figures of speech contradicting the principle of compositionality. When a speaker uses an idiom, the listener might mistake its actual meaning, if he or she has not heard this figure of speech before. It can also mean an expression whose meaning is not predictable from the usual meanings of its constituent elements, as kick the bucket or hang one's head, or from the general grammatical rules of a language, as the table round for the round table, and that is not a constituent of a larger expression of like characteristics.

| The Global Financial Meltdown |
| - By Ashima Sekhri |
What is happening these days in the financial markets is by no means new or unheard of. It has happened before and is likely to repeat itself again in another few decades. Yet, the world and every adult individual in it, is appalled at the sheer ease with which the world’s financial house of cards is crumbling. At a speed.

And for some, it simply implies Arabs in turbans living in lavish oil-money-funded palaces.
Every few days we read something or the other related to Oil and it affects us in some or the other way. Some times we blame the government, which in turn blames the Middle East, who in turn blame America! All in all, the average reader is more often than not confused as to what exactly goes on in the world of OIL and how it all pans out and ends up affecting all our lives in so many ways. This article will hopefully set some fundamentals straight and help everyone understand the basics.

For beginners, a Mutual Fund is an organisation where individual investors pool in their savings and channel them directly into the financial markets. As simple as this may seem, it yields a variety of investment options, ranging from government bonds to technology stocks. Investing in the stock markets is not an easy task, especially if you don’t have the time to go about identifying, researching and monitoring investments. Investors with limited investment means need to look out for professional help and advice. This is exactly where mutual funds come in. A mutual fund is like a place where investors with similar financial goals pool in their money, hire a professional manager to invest that money and monitor the investments...
