| In the minds of most eager B-school aspirants, the three letters MBA conjure dreams of important designations, phenomenal pay packages and associated lifestyles. Surely, that’s not a lot to ask for after two gruelling years spent crunching numbers, analyzing case-studies, learning to negotiate and honing team skills through numerous activities in and out of the classroom, not to mention the savings spent! But despite the universally acknowledged merits of the degree and the impressive statistics flaunted by B-schools and media alike, does an MBA really guarantee success? In other words, while the letters MBA may appear after the name of most successful corporate heads, do all MBAs make it to the top? Or even near the top? Evidently, no. It’s like those necessary-sufficient conditions you study in school – while business education can teach you the hard, technical skills that are necessary for success, it cannot ensure sufficiency. So what is it that managers who have eventually scaled the heights within the corporate world have done to catapult themselves to these levels?
