The Indian Institutes of Management, located in seven cities (now in Shillong too, expected to open for 2008 batch) in India, conduct an all India Common Admission Test (CAT) for admission to their Postgraduate Programmes in Management (PGP). The IIMs are the most reputed B-schools in the country, thereby making the CAT a must take for all MBA aspirants. More than English, Mathematics and Reasoning, the CAT is supposed to be a test of nerves. Other than the competition, what adds to this is the changing level of difficulty and the emphasis on accuracy.

The XLRI Aptitude Test (XAT) is one of the five national level entrance tests for admissions to MBA programmes conducted by B-schools all over India. The Xavier Labour Research Institute (XLRI) conducts the XAT entrance test and its score is valid for admissions to several leading B-schools of the country. In 2006, the forms were made available to students from September onwards and they have to be filled out and submitted online on the website www.xlri.edu/xat.
XLRI-Jamshedpur, XIM-Bhubaneshwar, SIBM-Pune, and S.P. Jain Institute of Management and Research are some of the B-schools that accept XAT scores.

The written entrance test to the MBA (Full Time) course at the Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi, is usually held in January each year. Applications to the same are invited through advertisements in leading national dailies in the month of September/October.
Test Structure
Perhaps the most distinguishing feature of the FMS entrance test is the fact that it is not a sectional test but a jumbled one. Questions on a particular area, however, usually appear together. Because there are no sectional divisions or time constraints, a student has the freedom to decide on the questions he would like to attempt first, leaving his/her weaker areas for later. However, this requires a lot of presence of mind and practice of judgment.

A student must have a recognised Bachelor's degree of minimum 3 years duration in any discipline in order to take the test. Students of the final year can also apply. There is no age limit for taking the test.
The test is conducted at different test centres. They are: Ahmedabad, Allahabad, Bangalore, Bhubaneshwar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Coimbatore, Delhi, Dehradun, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Jamshedpur, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Visakhapatnam. Group Discussions and Interviews are held at Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow and Mumbai.
Candidates need to register for the IIFT entrance test. They need to apply separately for allied institutes accepting IIFT test scores.

The CET 2007 for entrance to MMS programmes in Maharashtra had a mix of questions, which mainly tested one's ability to attempt as many questions as possible in the allocated time. The overall difficulty level of the test this year was similar to the last year's paper.
The key differentiator in this exam would have been the number of questions attempted and the ability to gather all the easy points. Another factor of success would be the ability to make intelligent guesses based on limited working out of problems.

SNAP is the Symbiosis National Aptitude Test for admission to all the postgraduate courses like Management & Business, Communications, Geo-informatics, Health Sciences, IT & Computer Science and Agri Business. The Symbiosis institutes offering postgraduate programmes are as follows:

The Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), a well-known management institute located in Mumbai, offers a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) programme.
Test Structure
Students need to have a Bachelor's degree from a recognised university with minimum 50% marks aggregate in any discipline. Final year students can also apply.
The test has five sections, each carrying 40 questions. The level of difficulty of the questions varies from tough, moderate to easy. There is no section-wise time limit.
The examination was held on December 10 in 2006. The Test Centres for the written exam are in different places.

ICET is a Common Entrance Examination for admission into MCA and MBA courses offered by Universities in Andhra Pradesh and their affiliated Colleges. ICET is held every year in the month of May.
The notification for the test is released through major English and Telegu newspapers in Andhra Pradesh around February/March each year. The participating universities take the onus of conducting and managing the test by rotation. In 2007, the test was conducted by Osmania University.
The popularity of MBA and MCA courses in Andhra Pradesh can be gauged by the rapid growth of the number of applicants taking this test year after year.

MAT is a good option for students who miss out on other opportunities to get admission to the hallowed institutions. It is important to note that not only is the number of institutes that accept the MAT scores higher, but also the number of students applying to MAT is lower. However, there are many institutes which enjoy a good reputation and accept MAT scores for admissions.
The Management Aptitude Test (MAT) is one of the 5 national level entrance tests for admissions to MBA programmes conducted by B-schools all over India. The All India Management Association (AIMA) conducts the MAT entrance test and its score is valid for admissions to several leading B-schools of the country.

The Gujarat Common Entrance Test GCET is held for admission to all the Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Computer Application (MCA) courses offered in the various Institutes/ Colleges run in the state of Gujarat except the IIM, Ahmedabad. Admission bulletins were available in person only at centres in the following cities on working days on payment of the specified amount in cash per bulletin: Bhavnagar, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Patan, Rajkot, Surat and Vidyanagar. Candidates who clear GCET can apply for the various management programmes offered through the different Institutes/University Departments/Colleges in the state of Gujarat. Programmes offered: Master in Business Administration, PG Diploma in Business Management, PG Diploma in Disaster Management, Master in Computer Application.
Universities in Gujarat and their affiliated colleges accept the scores: Bhavnagar University, Gujarat University, Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University, MS University of Baroda, Saradar Patel Vallabh Vidyanagar, Saurashtra University, Veer Narmada South Gujarat University.

The MPMET was held on 18th February 2007 this year. The Professional Examination Board, MP, Bhopal (VYAPAM), conducts the test for admission to AICTE approved MCA/MBA courses in the state of Madhya Pradesh. The test was conducted in Bhopal, Gwalior, Indore, Jabalpur, Rewa, Sagar, Ujjain, Raipur, New Delhi and Lucknow.

PGCET is a Post Graduate Common Entrance Test for admission into the First year, First semester of Full Time and Part Time courses in Master of Business Administration in Government Colleges, University Departments and the private unaided institutions affiliated to the following Univerities- Bangalore, Gulbarga, Karnatak, Kuvempu, Mangalore, Mysore, Tumkur, Bijapur Women's University and Visvesvaraya Technologycal University, within the state of Karnataka. KMAT is first step to pursue a career in Business Management and Computer Application profession.
Eligibility
The Karnataka Private Postgraduate Colleges' Association (KPPGCA) conducts the KMAT every year to admit students into students' quota. This year the test was held on 8th July 2008. It was conducted across 13 locations and 22 centres in Karnataka.

RMAT is a Rajasthan Management Admission Test for admission to the two year MBA course. It was held on 10th June 2007. The medium of RMAT-2007 was English. The fee for RMAT form (Rs.1000/-) includes fee for the entrance test also. The application forms were available at eleven branches of Punjab National Bank (PNB). The RMAT-2007 form, duly filled in the candidate's own handwriting was to be registered to the given address or dropped in the drop box at RMAT office or submitted to any of the eleven Punjab National Bank (PNB) branch. In case of an incomplete application form, the candidate was allowed to complete the form by paying Rs.100/-by way of an Account payee demand draft in favour of RMAT-2007. The test was conducted only in six cities viz., Ajmer, Bikaner, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kota and Udaipur.

Owned by GMAT®, this test is developed by ACT and administered by Pearson VUE in test centres across the globe throughout the year. The Test of English as a Foreign Language (or TOEFL®, pronounced 'toe-full' or sometimes 'toffle') evaluates the ability of an individual to use and understand English, specially those who do not use English as their mother tongue. It tests the candidate's capability to speak and comprehend English the way it is spoken, written, and heard in college and university settings. IELTS is the International English Language Testing System that gauges the capacity of a candidate to communicate in English using the skills of - listening, reading, writing and speaking (all four-language skills). This test is meant for people who intend to study or work where English is the language of communication.
The University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations, British Council and IDP Education Australia jointly manage it.
