Tell us about the selection process at FMS.
The selection process at FMS is very unique. I think it is the only top tier B School which has an extempore as part of the admission process. The entrance test has four sections each on Quantitative ability, Verbal, English Comprehension and Logical reasoning. I felt that the language components can be challenging. Although written entrance score accounts for 70% weightage, major ups and downs can happen due to the remaining 30% of the selection rounds. There had been a case where a candidate who got 100 percentile in the written test didn’t make it to the final list because of his not so good performance in the other rounds. So we must focus on all rounds
My interview went smooth without any surprises and I had questions covering various areas that included my personal and academic background. I was quizzed a lot on the work I did at Maruti Udyog. The extempore was during the interview round and that was only different experience in the entire selection process. You are given a minute to talk on a topic suggested by the panel. The topics for the extempore are usually abstract or on general awareness. The intention here is to test your presence of mind and ability to put your ideas into effective words in a limited time.
Why did you choose FMS as your MBA destination?
At that point I felt that FMS offered unique advantages over other B schools. It has the lowest fees among other b schools. It has an excellent alumni network and consistent placement records. It offers a good return on investment( ROI). Besides, it is in the heart of Delhi and the location proved to be of great advantage.
What according to you have been the best takeaways from your MBA ?
The brand name of FMS is recognized globally and so having a good institute backing has helped me a lot through my MBA.
The two years spent doing the MBA has sensitized me with the different domains in the world of business. The plethora of opportunities to excel here are too many. The campus life has given me a good exposure to life, great networks and long lasting friends.
Your parting words to all MBA aspirants…
Preparation really pays off. Remember to focus on all aspects of the selection process and not just the written exam. For candidates who have 3 years or more of corporate experience I would suggest the executive or one year MBA not the two year programme. |
