30% of Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS) batch gets PPOs/PPIs
December 26, 2009
JBIMS has received pre-placement offers (PPOs) or pre-placement interviews (PPIs) for around 30% of the class i.e. around 36 students out of 120. Most of the offers have come from companies in FMCG, banking and financial services, telecommunications and pharmaceuticals sectors from where the students had initially completed their summer internships.
While the institute declined to share names of companies, among those who visited its campus to recruit the 2010 batch for summer internships were Hindustan Unilever, Procter & Gamble, PepsiCo, Britannia, JPMorgan Chase, Deutsche Bank, Citigroup, ICICI Bank, Deloitte Consulting, Vodafone, Idea Cellular, GlaxoSmithKline, Novartis and Ranbaxy.
From the 2010 class, around 60% of students have opted for finance specialization while 40% have chosen marketing as a major. The split between students with PPOs and those with PPIs is equal. While a PPO will ensure that the candidate can join the company directly without appearing for interviews, the PPI will allow the student to appear for interviews without going through any other shortlisting process. For the final placement for the class of 2009, 98 companies had visited campus and 135 offers were made. Almost a third of the class was absorbed by the banking and financial services sector, while 20% joined FMCG and consumer durable majors.
This time around, for the first time, the Institute has put in place an initiative with the objective of encouraging students who are looking to be entrepreneurs at the end of their course. These students will not sit for the placement season and they will be using a placement holiday to start out their own venture. In case the venture is not successful, the student will be allowed to return to the Institute to participate in the placement process within two years of passing out. For the class of 2010, the cut-off point will be 2012 if the student wants to get back to the JBIMS placement process.
