IRMA to launch Alumni Mentorship Programme
September 18, 2009
The Institute of Rural Management Anand(IRMA) is all set to start an Alumni Mentorship programme. Here the basic idea is to leverage the Alumni base to help the current IRMA students. In a way it would bring Alumni closer to the institute as well. The IRMA Alumni Mentor Program serves three crucial functions: 1. Easing the transition from college to work for students; 2. Fostering student networking opportunities; 3. Creating an easy transition from student to active Alumni Association member.
In order to meet these goals and ensure lasting relationships between students and their mentors, great care would be taken in pairing alumni mentors with students who share similar career interests, says Amit Goel a student of the PRM 29 batch at IRMA who is also looking after this program from its inception to implementation. As a mentor they would be having manifold roles and some of them as follows; for academic support and personal development in helping to choose courses that will assist the student in meeting career goals, assistance with learning effective problem-solving skills, assistance with identifying his or her strengths and areas of improvement, encouragement with goal setting and achievement of those goals. In Career Development the mentors would help advising on career options; discussing particular fields of interest; sharing experiences of working in a particular field; guiding and supporting through the process of: Suggesting employers to work, for developing resumes and cover letters, preparing for interviews, Introducing your student to a variety of information and resources to assist him or her in preparing for specific careers/jobs. The benefits that the mentee would get out this programme are as follows; gain insight and direction on how to pursue one's chosen career path, engage in personal and professional discovery with someone who is supportive and has been in your shoes, network with seasoned professionals and develop relationships that will benefit one long after one graduates. All registered second year PRM participants are eligible and encouraged to apply.
