Publishers congregate in a special book exhibition at XLRI, Jamshedpur
December 7, 2009
Book exhibitions can be tricky experiences. For the most part, they are merely a forum to bring together publishers, sellers, and readers. Readers tend to find a few rare pieces and mostly a collection of generally available books.
This weekend, the students and faculty of XLRI experienced a special kind of book exhibition. The staff members of Sir Jehangir Ghandy Library at XLRI with LibComm (Library committee completely run by a group of students of XLRI) held a grand exhibition of management books which was completely different from general book exhibitions. Eleven well known publishers brought in most of their best sellers and newly published books for the students and faculty of this esteemed management institute to have a look at.
The publishing houses like Cengage, Oxford University Press, Viva Books Pvt. Ltd., Sage Publishers, Vikash Publishing House, Tata McGraw Hill, Cambridge University Press, Wiley India Ltd., Allied Publishers, Orient Blackswan Pvt. Ltd., and Pearson India Ltd. took part in this grand exhibition.
Fr E Abraham, SJ, Director of XLRI, inaugurated the two day exhibition. “Such exhibitions provide us a platform to have books on all the different aspects of management”, a faculty at XLRI said.
“This is one innovative way to know what books the students and faculty want us to stock in the library”, Mr. M.N. Hassan, Sr. Member of the XLRI Library Staff said.
The exhibition started with the prize distribution ceremony of ‘LibComm-Cracker of a Quiz’, sponsored by Pride Forever.
“The overwhelming response shown by students and the positive feedback from the faculty has encouraged us to work on such initiatives. We look forward to having more exhibitions and events in the upcoming year”, the spokesperson of LibComm said.
