XAT 2010, which was held on January 3, had a total of 101 questions and each question had 1 mark. The negative marking for the questions was 0.20 for first five incorrect answers and 0.25 marks for each incorrect answer thereafter. The numbers of sections were three, comprising data interpretation & quantitative ability, analytical reasoning & decision making and verbal & logical ability. The essay topic to be written within 20 minutes was ‘Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s need but not every man’s greed’.
The number of questions in each section was different; for example, data interpretation & quantitative ability had 40 questions. This was the most difficult section in the paper. Verbal & Logical Ability had 31 and asked many questions on inferential logic and critical reasoning. Most of the questions were based on long paragraphs. Analytical reasoning & decision making had 30 questions of moderate to difficult level. Solving the easier questions correctly and ensuring a well-balanced performance in all three sections would have helped the students brighten their chances. |
